There is no doubt that correct spinal alignment is important in preventing back pain. The mattress companies all stress that their product will improve your alignment, but, can this be true for side sleepers who make up almost 70% of the population? No, it can't. Sleep is the time that your body repairs itself. It strengthens your immune system, recharges your body, and helps fend off heart disease, diabetes, etc. Much like taking your car to the garage nightly for a tune up, to prevent future problems. However, not getting enough sleep leaves you vulnerable, not able to bring your best game on a daily basis.

Getting enough hours of restorative sleep is often not possible, because we set ourselves up for defeat. Going to bed too late, checking our email at night, and most importantly, not sleeping in a position that improves the quality of your sleep, and actually leads to pain: in the knees, hips, back & neck.

Side sleepers make up over 65% of the population. Almost all mattress firms today focus on their mattresses and head pillows, yet a great mattress or head pillow alone, can not correct the sleeper's alignment, which could lead to back, hip, and knee pain. A mattress can not align a side sleeper's spine, only a knee pillow can. It can not cushion the knees, and it alone can not correct a side sleeper's sleep posture. Yet most mattress companies do not even offer knee pillows, not realizing that this important product is a necessity for most of their customers. How do we wake them up, and make them realize that that they are misleading customers with statements of improved sleep posture that do not apply to the largest segment of their market?
